In the lead up to An Evening with the Siddiquis at Déda, we ask the boys a few questions of our own...

 

  1. Do you have nicknames for each other?

Baasit Not for each other but we do have nicknames our viewers have given us.  Dad has been referred to as Silver Fox and Snake Hips Sid.

 

  1. Your conversations and banter flow so easily, do you forget you’re being recorded?

Umar In a way yes, we’ve been doing this for so long now we’re very comfortable with the camera being there.  Also we’re very at ease with the film crew. 

 

  1. What’s the nicest thing about working together?

Sid It’s just a lot of fun, you get to sit and chat with people that you are genuinely fond of.  On occasions the days that we film may be the only time we see each other in the week so it’s as much a catching up of what’s going in each other’s lives as anything, also there’s plenty of laughs, snacks and cups of tea.

 

  1. What is the best gift you have ever given each other?

 

Umar The best gift I got for my 30th was a Synthesiser, I still have it and play it.

Baasit The best gift for me wasn’t a gift per say but the surprise party my wife, family and friends threw for me for my 30th.

Sid I’ve yet to receive the perfect gift from these two.  I did get 2 copies of the same Alan Sugar Autobiography. I’ve just about finished reading one copy and (sarcastically) can’t wait to read the second.   

 

  1. What is the most ridiculous thing you have done whilst on air?

 

Sid Watched TV

Umar I once wore a dartboard xmas jumper and the guys threw sprouts at it.

Baasit I taught Dad how to braid Amelia’s (my daughter's) hair using a wig.

 

  1. What thing are you looking forward to the most this Winter?

 

Baasit What else Christmas?

Sid Yeah I agree with Baas; Christmas is a great time for all of us and there’s a chance I might get that ‘perfect gift’.

Umar You’re not still sore about that are you Dad?

 

 

  1. Do you get recognised a lot around Derby?

 

Baasit It varies when I’m on my own. I get the occasional ‘hey I know you’ but most of the time no. I think by now they know ‘oh it’s that guy of the telly. I’ve already got a picture of him on my phone’ and just move on.

Umar Yeah the same with me I think most citizens of Derby who have wanted to approach me for a photo or a kind word have already done it.  Now it’s like ‘oh it’s him again’

Sid I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I get mobbed everywhere I go.

Umar Yeah but that’s just you Dad.

Baasis Yeah you’re very mobbable.
