"Contraptions, comedy and courage!" Saturday 17 November | 11am | £8
Déda is really excited to be working with Rolls-Royce to bring STEM subjects to life with circus and dance for Derby school children.
Working together, local primary schools, creative professionals and STEM professionals will improve STEAM opportunities for children and young people in disadvantaged areas of Derby.
Representatives from Deda and a team of Rolls-Royce STEM ambassadors will devise exciting ways of engaging children in STEAM, create a STEAM Club toolkit, and provide training for teachers.
Children will be amazed and inspired by an interactive circus performance delivered by award-winning company: PanGottic. Following the performance the artist will show children the science behind the contraptions and tricks, explaining how the magic happens. This will then be followed by an interactive workshop where children get involved in making contraptions and having a go at performing tricks, using the science and engineering they have learnt.
PanGottic is performing Long Shot to the public at 11am this Saturday at Déda.
Following this the partnership will set up STEAM clubs in each of the schools to develop interest and skills in these subjects. These will run fortnightly for 6 months at 3 Derby primary schools for year 5 & 6 pupils.
The project will culminate with two opportunities for the children to attend/present at STEAM festivals: a city-wide festival for children and young people and at the Big Bang Near Me in June 2019.
