Edge Hill graduate Isobel returns to Derby to take on a new challenge with one of the city's leading cultural organisations.

Isobel's first month in post as Dance Development and Learning Coordinator (maternity cover)

"Hi, I'm Isobel (Dance Development and Learning Coordinator, Maternity Cover),

It’s now been a whole month since starting my new role and I love it!

I can't say Déda is a completely new experience for me as actually Déda has been a huge part of my life for around 9 years. I've taken classes, been part of performances, platforms, tours and even did a week’s work experience back in 2009.

Having graduated from Edge Hill University with a first class degree in Dance and Aerial Performance in 2015, I knew that I wanted to get back to the place I first found my love for Contemporary dance; Déda!

It's so refreshing to be in a fun, creative space, surrounded by exciting projects, and inspirational professionals.

Every day I wake up excited for the day’s busy agenda to commence.

I’m currently shoulders deep in exciting project proposals, planning, preparation and delivery.

Here’s what I’ve been up to this month;

  • I’ve been working in schools towards The Celebration of Dance, which this year is based on one of my favourite themes; Disney!

  • I have been delivering as part of a Project Pilot session for a pre-existing Dementia group in the local area.

  • I’ve started work on a new collaborative project with Air Arts and Baby People at The Royal Derby Children’s Hospital.

  • I have started delivering a monthly 'East meets West' dance enrichment sessions at Creative Carers.

  • I have started planning and preparing for Platforms including; The Secondary School Dance Platform and Interface17.

It’s so great that every day I get to immerse myself into something new. I feel so fortunate to be part of such a unique job role and work with so many exciting people and projects.

I’m already learning so much and am so excited to expand my knowledge and get the most from my time with Déda.
