Mindfulness Meditation

Déda have recently recruited two new members of staff and thought it would be a nice opportunity to send them off to experience a class first-hand. They document their experience below:

Hi, I’m Becky Oldham and I’ve recently joined Déda as the new Marketing Manager. I’ve been in the role 4 weeks now and have been itching to try out a new class! In my spare time I attend aerial trapeze and hoop classes so thought I’d enjoy something relaxing and chilled to balance my week out.  I opted for Pam Sidhu’s Mindfulness Meditation Class because not only did this seem like the perfect opportunity to counterbalance stress; it also gives you positive meditation techniques to take away.  As someone who has experienced quite a lot of change recently (I moved house and planned a wedding all in the space of a year!)  I found her ‘Mindful’ affirmations refreshing and helpful.   An example of one of these mantras that Pam quotes herself is, ‘You can’t stop the waves but you can learn how to surf.’

I was a little shy at the start of the class but found myself unwinding due to Pam’s welcoming and friendly introduction. She talked us through some interesting visualisation techniques and then asked if we’d like to try a body-scan meditation. We lay on some cosy crash mats and were asked to try out some slow breathing exercises.  I found the whole experience really relaxing and felt like a weight had been lifted the moment she told us to open our eyes.  Not only have a gained a more positive perspective, I got to try out a completely new activity! I couldn’t recommend the Mindfulness Meditation class more…

Hello, I’m Louisa Sanfey the new General Manager here at Déda. Having just started the role last week, I was keen to try out some of the classes and experience the building from the other side of the reception desk divide! The new Mindfullness Meditation class led by Pam Sidhu seemed like a great way to wind down after a busy and eventful first week so I decided to give it a go. In my previous work as a freelance theatre director, I’d already come into contact with techniques for being present in the moment so I was curious to see how Mindfulness overlapped with this. At the start of the class, Pam talked us through the research behind the exercises we would be learning, and took time to touch base with everyone in the room about their expectations and what they hoped to accomplish from the session. Then we cracked on with the hard work – lying down on a comfortable mat and working through visualisation and breathing exercises to focus in on the present and eliminate any stresses and anxieties from our minds. It was incredibly relaxing – I may have dozed off a little bit….. But I’ll definitely be using the techniques we learned in future.

Fancy giving it a go? Our Mindful Mediation classes take place every Tuesday at 6.45-7.45pm.

To book your next session go to : http://www.deda.uk.com/classes/body-mind-soul/mindfulness-meditation/ or alternativly book at Déda box office or over the telephone on 01332 370911.
