Award winning poet, playwright, novelist, lyricist and broadcaster Simon Armitage performed at Déda as part of Derby Book Festival on Thursday 4 June
Our Derby Book Festival Simon Armitage event was a huge success, during it we ran a poetry competition for our budding writers. Lily Gornall performed her winning entry on the night and as an extra treat we are publishing her poem here on our blog! Parental advisory - contains swearing.
First World Problems
I’ve First World problems can’t you see?
Why’s all this s**t happening to me?
Gimme some Valium – take away the pain.
First World problems driving me insane.
My contact lens cleaner ran out yesterday,
Now I’ve got to wear my glasses to work today.
Got an I-phone 6 – thought I was in heaven,
Till Apple announced the I-phone 7.
Don’t have enough hangers for all my clothes.
Just noticed a blackhead on my nose.
They discontinued my favourite lipstick,
Now I’m so angry it makes me feel sick.
My hairdresser didn’t offer me coffee today,
And the injustice I feel just won’t go away.
In the following weeks we will be uploading the next parts of this fantastic winning entry. If you are inspired by these lyrical words why not join our poetry performance evenings. Suitable for all - whether waiting to be inspired or eager to share your work! The CUBE café|bar provides the perfect atmosphere to get creative.
