Award winning poet, playwright, novelist, lyricist and broadcaster Simon Armitage performed at Déda as part of Derby Book Festival on Thursday 4 June
Lily Gornall was the winner of our Simon Armitage poetry competition. In addition to performing her work at our Derby Book Festival event, we have also been posting her poem here on our blog. So as promised here is the second part of Lily Gornall's winning entry!
First World Problems
The taxi only cost £7 for the trip,
And I had to give the man a £3 tip.
My in-flight movie was longer than the flight.
My bed’s too far to switch out the light.
I’ve nowhere to put my leftover sandwich,
‘Cos there’s already too much food in the fridge.
I drank too much champagne and now I don’t feel well.
My facebook status is F.M.L.
I ran out of milk, now I’m seeing red.
I’ll have to put cream in my coffee instead.
I watched an entire series on Netflix in one go,
Now I’ve nothing to watch and I’m filled with woe.
I bought shampoo and conditioner from the store as a pair,
But the conditioner ran out first and I’ve ruined my hair
If you missed the first part of Lily's poem you can find it here. On Wednesday we will be uploading the third and final part. In the meantime if you would like to hear more poetry or even start writing your own, why not come along to one of our poetry performance evenings. The CUBE café|bar provides the perfect atmosphere and there is always a mouth watering selection of food and drink on the menu!
