Front of House Casual staff required

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Front of House team to gain valuable skills within one of Derby’s leading cultural organisations. Déda is a creative centre in Derby specialising in Dance, Contemporary Circus and Outdoor Work. Applicants should be able to demonstrate outstanding customer service, teamwork, communication and sales technique.

Our mission is to deliver an exceptional programme of Dance and Physical Performance to as wide an audience as possible and our Front of House are integral in making that happen. This is why we are looking for engaging, enthusiastic and motivated individuals to start in September ready for our exciting autumn programme of classes, performances and events. You will also get the opportunity to sit in the theatre on performance nights to ensure the comfort and safety of audiences.

Hours of work include afternoons but mostly evening and weekend shifts.

Job Description

General Duties

  • To sell tickets for classes, shows and events and raise donations for campaigns.
  • To be the key contact for any building issues during your shift.
  • To maintain the high standards of friendly, respectful communications with customers and colleagues
  • To assist the Front of house management team and contribute to effective day-to-day administration
  • To conduct accurate financial transactions and to take responsibility for reconciling end of day sales and takings.

The Building

  • To ensure all visitors, students, cleaners and contractors sign in and out of the building.
  • To contribute to the smooth running of the building and apply all relevant policies and procedures as they relate to the safe operation of a public building, to ensure all areas are kept clean and tidy and the building is locked at the end of each shift
  • To assist in ensuring that the premises are maintained in line with Health and Safety requirements, including a good working knowledge of the Fire Procedures.
  • To complete the Building Check and reporting faults and areas of concern to the Buildings team. Reporting faults using the Box Office Reports at the end of shift.

Performance Nights

  • To duty manage performances and ensure that they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • To liaise with the Technical Co-ordinators and be present and responsible for the wellbeing and safety of the audience until they have left the premises.

Marketing and Box Office

  • To ensure accuracy of data collected from customers. To assist Marketing in any duty required such as feedback through comments’ forms and mail-outs.
  • To ensure adequate levels of information and brochures are available

General Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time for rostered hours to allow at least 15 minutes for a handover of information. Ensure that the handover information is understood and actioned.
  • Arrange cover with other members of the team if you are not able to work the rostered hours.
  • To make quick and confident decisions when difficult decisions arise.
  • Comply with Box Office Standards and Customer Services Policy.
  • To act as an advocate for Déda both internally and in an external environments.

Job Type: Part-time

Rate: £8.20 /hour
