A stunning performance with mesmerising choreography
and illuminating digital projection

Premiere dance performance set to soar as Derbyshire based Adaire to Dance re-unite with visual arts company ILLUMINOS

Adaire to Dance and ILLUMINOS present Icarus, a brand new dance and digital interpretation of the well-known Greek myth. Combining captivating choreography and illuminating interactive artwork, audiences are taken on a journey to Sun and beyond.

A cast of four exceptional dancers from across the country integrate movement with light and stunning digital transformations from Rob and Matt Vale of ILLUMINOS. Choreographer, and Adaire to Dance Artistic Director, Alice Vale, has created a mesmerising full length contemporary piece set beautifully to an original score composed by Matt Vale, and featuring bespoke costume designs by Gaia Yeomans. The captivating tale has become very much a family affair as Matt and Rob of ILLUMINOS and Alice are siblings - working together to bring the classic myth to life.

Alice states “We are thrilled to be back in the studios at Déda creating a work based on such an epic myth. The digital and projection elements we are creating with ILLUMINOS are very exciting.”

This is not the first time Adaire to Dance have joined forces with ILLUMINOS. In 2013 they collaborated on the visually stunning Chatsworth LuminareGardens of Artemis produced in partnership with Déda Producing and performed at Chatsworth House. ILLUMINOS and Déda Producing later scooped the Derbyshire Heritage Awards 2014 Inspiration Award for the Best Special Project for Oberon, The Faery Prince - A Masque in the Gardens, at Chatsworth on returning the following year.

Alongside founding Adaire to Dance in 2011, Alice has been a leader of dance in the region,
co-ordinating the platform for aspiring and professional dancers, the Derbyshire Dance Artists Network, and leading the BA Dance degree course based at Déda in partnership with the University of Derby.  Her contribution to the sector was officially recognised in 2015 when she was awarded the 2015 Derby and Derbyshire Inspirational Woman of the Year Award in the Arts.

The world premiere of Icarus will be on Thursday 22nd September, 7.30pm, at Dèda, the creative
centre for dance, contemporary circus and outdoor work based in Derby city centre’s Cathedral Quarter.
