Family Friendly Events at Déda and in the CUBE café|bar

We have also signed up to the Age-Friendly Standards. We value all generations and aim to provide a welcoming and positive experience for everyone, regardless of their age.

To help you enjoy your experience we are committed to ensuring we meet these Standards. As we continue to improve our service, your views are very important to us – so please let us know if you have a good experience with us or tell us what you’d like us to improve.

Families Welcome!

We are a family friendly dance-focused arts organisation, located and embedded within our local community. We offer a range of family-friendly classes and performances, as well as activities in the CUBE café|bar.

Our building is accessible to all with automatic doors, lifts, convenient car parking on hand, and our staff are always welcoming and helpful.

Déda prides itself on being a welcoming and accessible venue for families. We recognise that families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, with a variety of different needs and in order to help us to be as welcoming as possible have pledged to the Family Arts Standards.

In order to make our building as accessible to families as possible we are pleased to provide:

  • Level access and lifts for buggies and wheelchair users.
  • Wheelchair spaces and buggy parks during performances and events.
  • An accessible baby change area.
  • Free drinking water
  • Comfortable seating in quiet areas for baby-feeding.

Travelling to Déda as a family

Convenient car parking is available directly opposite Déda at the Chapel Street Car Park from £1.60 per hour. Alternative parking is nearby at Queens Street from 70p an hour or Bold Lane from £1.80 per hour.

The bus station is located approximately 10 minutes walk away from our venue and the train station is a short taxi ride or 25 minute walk.

Food and Drink

Our bright and relaxed CUBE café|bar is child-safe and buggy friendly. There is plenty of room to move around with family friendly facilities including:

  • A children's menu with fresh, healthy options.
  • Highchairs
  • A toy box, book corner and colouring pencils

We hope families will find something they will love in our programme of events and we always aim to:

  • Offer a diverse performance programme which will appeal to a range of ages
  • Provide audiences with appropriate age guidance and notification of any sensitive issues so they can make informed choices.
  • Provide performance durations where possible so families can plan their travel.
  • Keep tickets for family shows at one price across the board to take into account the diversity of families.
  • Ask families for regular feedback on performances, classes and events.
  • Have helpful staff on hand during performances and events.

We want families to actively engage with their arts experience for the experience to continue further than just a workshop or performance. Where possible we will:

  • Reach out and engage with families from all parts of our community.
  • Create education packs to take home following an event.
  • Provide additional activities to enhance the theatre experience.
  • Sign-post children and families to our class programme so they can continue to engage with dance and the arts.
