New opportunity January 2011 - more information here
Déda is pleased to announce the latest participants in Déda|Artists, the scheme launched in 2007 to provide support for artists based in Derby, the East Midlands and nationally.
Past Déda|Artists have included: local theatre company Maison Foo, who created Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin which went on to tour regionally and is playing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later this year; Choreographers Claire Cunningham and Jose Agudo who created 4m2 which went on to appear as part of Dance3, the new touring package from the National Dance Network; and Christine Devaney and Luke Sutherland who won a Scotsman Edinburgh Fringe First in 2009 for their production Found.
Resident Artist for 2010-12 is Lucy Killingley and her company Body of Art. Lucy is a choreographer and dancer with a particular interest in creating accessible yet challenging dance for children.
Lucy has a long association with Déda through teaching and creating work. Her production Box, a dance theatre performance for children, was premiered at Déda in 2008.
Lucy said, “I am thrilled to be Déda’s Resident Artist for the next two years. Déda’s support will enable me to develop several new projects related to work for children and families, an area that I feel extremely passionate about. The East Midlands is quickly becoming recognised as a creative hub within this specialised field and I feel well placed at Déda to contribute to the growing momentum.”
Regional Artist for 2010-11 is Katie Green. Katie is a dance artist working predominantly in the East Midlands and London. Like Lucy, Katie has had a long relationship with Déda, including the presentation of her first professional choreography Flight, as part of Ignite in 2006.
Katie said, “Over the next year, I'm looking forward to beginning the creation of my next live dance piece. I am also very happy to have the opportunity to create new choreography with at least one of the many youth dance companies based at Déda. Déda has supported me in various ways since I began my professional carer, so this feels like exactly the right place to be four years on."
An Associate Choreographer will join Déda|Artists later in the year (details to be announced).
Déda|Artists was launched in 2007 to provide support for artists based in Derby, the East Midlands and nationally.
Stephen Munn, Director of Déda explains:
“Supporting artists is crucial to the dance ecology of the UK and places like Déda have the opportunity to make a real difference. We have found that by offering our resources and expertise, the artists we have worked with feel supported in all areas allowing them to concentrate on making fantastic new work. The East Midlands has a lot to offer the creative industries and it is through schemes such as Déda|Artists that the word spreads attracting people and organisations to Derby and the region.”
