U.Dance Module: Creating Dance for Performance (with 5–11year olds)
U.Dance

Wednesday 20 January from 10am-4pm (registration and coffee from 9.30am)
At Déda, Chapel Street, Derby, DE1 3GU

This module is written with primarily non-specialist teachers and leaders in mind, working inside and outside school with primary school age children. It is designed to try to cover in one day the creative process from initial ideas to ending performance. The module focuses on creative approaches to finding movement material, shaping and structuring and encourages participants to keep in mind some of the more fundamental questions that need to be at the heart of our practice as artists and educators. The module is delivered through informal and intensive discussion, brainstorming, practical exploration, and observation. The participants will go away with many resources that may help inspire and support them when embarking on making performances in a variety of settings.

The cost of the course is £50.00 including refreshments and lunch.

  • What will I need to bring? You will need to bring paper and a pen and wear clothing suitable for practical activity
  • What will I gain from the day? As well as all the skills and knowledge you will gain from the course, you will also receive a certificate of attendance and a resource pack to take back to your school or setting.
  • How can I reserve a place? All you need to do is complete the enrolment form and return to Rachel Austin on r.austin@deda.uk.com or by post to Déda, Chapel Street, Derby DE1 3GU.

The course is being led by Wendy Peers

Wendy taught PE and Dance in Chester at Upton High School for 20 years and became School Sports Coordinator for the last 3. She has now become freelance to work solely on dance. While teaching at Upton she created 18 themed dance evenings featuring up to 200 pupils in each year and developed a curriculum for non dance colleagues to teach with ease. She has also been involved in the choreography for school musicals, helped to coordinate concerts for all schools in the area and danced herself in community performances.

More recently Wendy has become more interested in developing the confidence and talents of others to develop their dance reaching. This has involved INSET for teachers; work with University students at primary and secondary level and running Dance Leaders courses for pupils at school. She enjoys passing on the passion for dance and seeing others enjoy being creative.

Wendy is a trainer for the U.Dance module: Creating Dance for Performance, written by Rosemary Lee.
