Mischievous mad fools
Derby is drawing on three of its weirdest, wackiest and most wonderful residents to help to focus all attention on Derby Festé - one of the most eye-catching outdoor, city centre festivals in Britain, which takes place between September 24 & 26 this year.
Maison Foo consists of a trio of Derby girls who have managed to already carve-out a name for themselves, as well as a very successful niche, in the highly competitive world of street entertainment.
Comprised of Bethany Sheldon, Kathryn Lowe and fellow accomplice Jennifer Sumner, Maison Foo will not only be performing their show “Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin” at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, but also flying the flag for Derby Festé at that event.
Masion Foo translates very simply in their minds as “the house of the mischievous mad fools”. And visitors to Derby Festé in both 2008 and 2009 will have already seen them cutting their teeth on the city’s pavements in their guise as Alien Tourists, and Trolley Dollies.
The home-town act has now also been ‘officially adopted’ by VisitDerby to help spread the news of the city’s recent regeneration and subsequent re-emergence as a genuine visitor destination.
So, as well as catching them performing at Derby Festé this year from 24th-26th September, expect to also see the Alien Tourists turning up – for example – as a couple of participants on a guided tour of the city during Derby Festé! And anything could happen (and probably will!) as Maison Foo unveil their latest performance…..when they promise to bring the seaside to the most centrally located city in Britain.
Derby Festé is now recognised as one of the most spectacular weekend festivals of its kind in Britain. The event will bring a variety of international and local artists together for a feast of eye-popping live performances which organisers say will both “stimulate the senses, and take your breath away”.
And to make the most of this event, VisitDerby has teamed up with several accommodation providers in-and-around the city to create an amazing line-up of value-for-money special offers – starting from around £20 per person per night, bed and breakfast, based on two people sharing.
