Home > News > Two triple bills from the next generation of dancemakers
![]() |
The National Dance Network’s pick of the freshest choreographic talent in the UK, Dance3, comes to Déda, Derby this Spring.
The first of two triple bills comes to Déda on 26 March and features 4m2 by Claire Cunningham and Jose Agudo, a physical theatre performance telling true life stories of isolation - a Tibetan held in captivity, a stammering Swedish actress, an Icelandic woman poised perilously atop the edge of a cliff.
Cabin Fever, a solo by Tom Dale, is a voyeuristic look at how we operate creatively within our confined mental, physical and social realities.
A mind as beautiful, a new work for five dancers by former Phoenix dancer Douglas Thorpe, explores the experience of schizophrenia, combining Thorpe’s trademark speed, rhythm and precision with a moving spoken narrative.

On 21 May, there’s a chance to see the work of another three dancemakers. Darren Ellis’Sticks and Bones is a solo for Darren and his drumsticks, exploring practice and the quest for perfection. When the sticks take control is when the trouble starts!
In Laïla Diallo’sBetween The Shingle And The Dune, created in collaboration with Theo Clinkard, physical narratives of togetherness evoke shifting landscapes of distance and nearness.
Mickael Marso Riviere’sAppel, a trio for two dancers and a musician playing bansuri (flute) and tabla, is inspired in equal parts by B-boying, capoeira and contemporary dance.
In addition, an installation by choreographer and filmmaker Heather Eddington will be in the foyer of the theatre for both performances. A Blank Canvas blends dance, film and animation to humorous effect.
Dance3 is a new initiative intended to support choreographers when they need it most – in the early stages of their careers. It has been warmly welcomed by leading names from the dance world including Wayne McGregor and Matthew Bourne.
Wayne McGregor, artistic director of Random Dance and Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, says: “Dance3 is a rare and unparalleled opportunity for a new generation of choreographers to share and tour their work around the UK.”
Matthew Bourne, artistic director of New Adventures, says: “It is vital that the next generation of choreographers, who are the life blood of dance, continue to be supported through initiatives like Dance3.“
