A project celebrating the story of dance in Derby since 1950s
Join Dèda’s 20 year anniversary celebrations and look back at the history of dance in city since the 1950s. From Northern Soul to Hip Hop, explore the dance scenes that have taken hold of Derby through the decades. Discover memories and stories of where Derby people have danced across the city, and artistic responses to the 200 Days of Dancing Call Out.
One Day In November 1974 presented by Doug Smith offers a glimpse of the ultimate underground dance scene: Northern Soul. Spontaneously captured during an all-dayer at Cleo’s night club, Derby, the monochrome photographs are narrated by interviews with the Northern Soulers who were there.
A special commission by photographer Chevy J Thompson explores Derby's modern Hip Hop culture with dancers from Trinity Warriors.
