Lara's Bio
Lara was Jerwood Arts Jazz Encounter Fellow 2020-2022 and recipient of Help Musician’s UK’s Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2021. She is also alumni of Manchester Jazz Festival’s talent development programme’s ‘hothouse’ and ‘level up’. She recently featured a ground-breaking guest mix on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC 6 Music show, Lara is on the cutting edge of experimental music, both in and out of jazz.
Performance highlights include Vortex Jazz Club, London Jazz Festival Kings Place, Cafe Oto, and Servant Jazz Quarters. She has supported artists including Courtney Pine, Novelist, Roller Trio, Portico Quartet, Laura Jurd and Elliot Galvin. She’s collaborated with Archipelago, Shiva Feshareki, Seb Rochford, DJ Shlomo, Cleveland Watkis and performed around Europe at events including Sofar Sounds, London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, End of the Road Festival, All Points East and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
Her compositional activity has led to participation in projects Postcards from Eyemouth (Dr. Jacob Thompson-Bell and Dr. Nick Katuszonek) and Peninsular Arts ‘Music of Motions and Presence’ (Dr. Federico Visi and Marco Frattini). She worked on a commission for theatre company ‘Riptide’ in which she composed and recorded the music for an immersive app experience available on the apple app store ‘Sonder’ and has composed the music for Kahlo Theatre’s theatre production ‘The Other Side’. Recently she was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 to create newly improvised music with producer Aylu - the music was featured on Late Junction.
