Festé was created to celebrate the City of Derby, to bring people together and to use arts and culture to connect us in our shared passion for making Derby a great place to live and visit. 2020 has presented many challenges and has thrown us into unknown territories, meaning Festé cannot take place in its usual format in 2020.

Derby Well Re-dressed, is a trail of contemporary street dressings produced by artists and the general public, created with the aim of marking the return of people to the streets, shops and buildings of Derby. These “Dressings”, “Shrines”, “Memorials” and “interventions” will hopefully embrace our experiences, memories, hopes and ambitions – from Lockdown to Black Lives Matters and beyond. We are looking for 3 artists to create pieces of artwork to form part the core fabric of the street dressing of Derby.

By gently appropriating the traditional and unique Derbyshire WELL DRESSING format of creating a community artwork which adorn our town and village wells in the summer; Festé are looking for both traditional and contemporary takes on the Derbyshire Well Dressing – These could be in Dance, Performance, Painting, Sculpture, Video and Song. They could be created in traditional materials (Clay, flower petals, seeds and shells) or recycled from household items (rubber gloves, discarded masks, empty wine bottles!). They could be a response to Lockdown, a celebration of community, The NHS, Black Lives Matter, your family or a loved one lost…. However, you need to express yourself, we want you to transform the city, creating pathways and stories, memories and maybe a promise for a better future!

What are we looking for?

Who
We are looking for X3 artists – from a variety of disciplines to create three key pieces of work to form the fabric of the street dressing trail.

Design
Our minds are open to range of suggestions for potential pieces of work from traditional style well dressings to large scale paintings, graffiti walls to poems, sculptures to photographs we want to be as open as possible and work to facilitate your ideas in the best way we can. They could be created in traditional materials (Clay, flower petals, seeds and shells) or recycled from household items (rubber gloves, discarded masks, empty wine bottles!)
